Featured Guides

These featured guides are designed to support students through common mental health challenges during study. Start with the one that matches what you’re facing right now — you can always come back for the others.

“You don’t have to do it all at once. One steady step is still progress.”

How to use this page

  • Pick one guide that matches what you’re dealing with today.
  • Try one tool from the guide — tiny steps count.
  • Save this page so you can return when you need another topic.
  • If you feel unsafe or overwhelmed, go straight to “Where to get help”.

Language matters

Students are often labelled as “lazy” or “not trying” when they’re actually overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, burned out, sleep-deprived, neurodivergent, or carrying stress outside of study.

  • Try: “What’s making this hard?” instead of “Why aren’t you doing it?”
  • Try: “Let’s make it smaller.” instead of “Just push through.”
  • Try: “You’re not alone.” instead of “Everyone feels that way.”

Where to get help

If mental health is affecting daily life, reaching out for support can help.

  • Study support: student wellbeing, counselling, disability services, course advisors.
  • Health support: GP/doctor, community mental health supports, youth services.
  • Urgent support: if you are in danger right now, contact local emergency services.

(We can add NZ/AU/UK/US helplines later when you’re ready.)
