ACCESS • INCLUSION • SAFETY
A service can look suitable on paper and still be a poor fit. It is reasonable to ask how a provider handles communication, sensory needs, identity, disability access, consent, privacy and individual choice.
Does the service welcome people with different identities, backgrounds, support needs and communication styles?
Can information, appointments, spaces, forms or communication be adjusted when needed?
Does support focus on the individual rather than assuming every autistic person needs the same approach?
Are expectations, privacy, consent, complaints processes and boundaries explained clearly?
Can the service work respectfully with culture, language, family structures and community context?
Are autonomy, dignity, informed choice and disability rights recognised throughout support?
Does support recognise autistic identity and strengths while still taking disability, distress and support needs seriously?
Can sensory load, waiting spaces, appointment format, communication and pacing be adapted?
BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Being listed in a directory does not automatically mean a service will suit every person. Check current information directly with the organisation or provider before relying on it.
