Supporting an LGBTQIA+ person

✅ What to say (support scripts)

• “I’m here and I support you.”
• “Your identity is valid.”
• “We can choose one safe step together.”

🚫 What not to say

• “It’s just a phase.”
• “Just be normal.”
• “Stop overthinking.”

🧠 What to do (simple)

1) Listen without judging.
2) Ask if they want text or call help first.
3) Validate their experience.

💛 Self-care for carers/supporters

Supporting someone else can be heavy — drink water, take short breaks, and reach out for your own support (Samaritans, GP, etc.).
