NZ Crisis Support Directory
If you’re supporting someone you love through a mental health crisis, it can feel scary and exhausting. This page helps you find the next step quickly — and reminds you that you deserve support too.
If you’re overwhelmed, choose the option that feels most doable — even if it’s a tiny step. You can come back and choose a different option later.
If there is immediate danger, call 111 or go to ED. If you can, stay with the person until support arrives.
Text or chat options can be easier when you’re stressed, tired, or overstimulated.
If you want an official “what to do next” pathway, this page includes 24/7 options and advice.
If you need a first step (breathing, grounding, pacing, safe distraction), start here.
1) Regulate the moment: slow voice, slower breathing, softer body language.
2) Ask one clear question: “Are you safe right now?”
3) Offer two choices: “Text or call?” / “Sit together or go for air?”
4) Take one step, then reassess: you don’t have to solve everything today.
Tap your region to call the local mental health crisis team. If you’re unsure where you fit, choose the closest main centre.
