NZ Cultural & Community Mental Health Support Directory

Find welcoming pathways to culturally responsive wellbeing, counselling, family and community support.

🌿 A gentle note

There is no single right way to seek help. You may prefer support that understands your culture, language, identity, faith, disability or whānau circumstances. Start with whichever pathway feels comfortable. This page is a navigation guide, not a clinical service or an emergency response.

The site-wide Accessibility button in the header remains available.

Need urgent mental health help in New Zealand?

If there is immediate danger to life or safety, call 111. For an urgent mental health assessment, contact your local crisis team or go to your nearest hospital emergency department. For someone to talk to, free call or text 1737 any time.

General community groups and directory resources below are not automatically crisis services. Check each organisation’s stated service and opening hours.

Find support that respects who you are

Explore Māori and kaupapa Māori services; Pasifika and Pacific Peoples wellbeing; Asian and South Asian communities; migrant and former refugee support; African, Middle Eastern, Latin American and other multicultural networks; and language or faith-aware services.

Community identities overlap. Some services work across several communities, and people may choose support outside any single label.

Support should also fit communication needs, disability access, neurodivergence, LGBTQIA+ identity and family circumstances. Ask providers about interpreters, access needs and privacy before attending.

Regional, faith-aware & broader community options

Not every visitor needs a separate cultural directory. General community or faith-aware mental health care may be a better starting point; confirm provider scope directly.

What kind of support would help?

Everyday wellbeing

Culturally safe listening, community groups, belonging, peer support and prevention.

Counselling & clinical care

Ask about qualifications, referrals, fees, language support and culturally responsive practice.

Urgent or crisis needs

Use crisis teams or emergency services rather than assuming ordinary community groups offer urgent response.

Before contacting a service

It can help to ask: Does this organisation support my region? Is the service free or paid? Are interpreters available? Can I bring family or a support person? Is support online or in person? Is it suitable for young people or older adults?

Where possible, check official details directly with the organisation. We will connect verified GeoDirectory listings here as they are published, without duplicating the informational pages.

Common questions

Is this an emergency or crisis support directory?

No. The main directory is for general mental health, cultural wellbeing and community support. Urgent options are separately identified at the top of the page.

What if I belong to more than one community?

You do not need to choose only one identity. Look across pathways and ask providers whether they can meet your cultural, language, disability and other needs together.

Does the website have verified service listings yet?

Our GeoDirectory service listings are being prepared and verified. The links currently shown include existing Aspie Answers guidance and external organisations; they are not presented as published GeoDirectory Places.

Can I get help in a language other than English?

Availability differs between providers. Ask about interpreters and your preferred language. Do not assume that an automatically translated page means a service can provide that language.
