Building Self-Connection

Before we connect well with others, we need a relationship with ourselves. This can be especially true for neurodivergent women who have masked their needs for years.

  • Understanding how your body signals emotions
  • Checking in with sensory needs
  • Identifying what drains vs. restores you
  • Recognising internal communication barriers

Neurodivergent-Friendly Communication Tools

  • Scripts that reduce anxiety during conversations
  • Using written or visual communication when speech is hard
  • Pausing the conversation to regulate
  • Clarifying meaning rather than assuming intention
  • “I feel… I need…” frameworks

Emotional Safety & Respect

Emotional safety is the foundation of every healthy relationship — romantic or not.

  • Feeling heard, not dismissed
  • Not being punished for emotional expression
  • Respect for sensory needs
  • Permission to take space without conflict
  • Feeling safe to be your unmasked self
Calm Corner:

“You do not have to communicate perfectly to deserve connection. You only need to be real, gentle with yourself, and open to growing at your own pace.”
